DIY Home Improvements for Spring

Welcome spring into your home by planning a weekend of decorating and renovating fun. After months of dreary weather, spring is the perfect time to get renovating and embrace the bright sunlight and excitement that the new season brings. A seasonal makeover can add a whole new aura and charm to your home without breaking the bank. With the long Easter weekend quickly approaching, what a better time to complete those niggly jobs.

At Richard Burbidge we understand the need for cost effective renovation, which is why DIY home renovators love our easy to install mouldings. From skirting to architrave to panelling, we have the precision-cut mouldings for every requirement.

If you are in need of some serious mouldings renovation inspiration, then here are our top 3 ways you can add a touch of spring to freshen up your home.

Square Wall Panelling

Wall panelling is one of the few renovation projects that are extremely affordable, while also completely transforming a room. A panelled wall will become a focal point within your home and a talking point among all of your guests. Square wall panelling is one of the more popular panelling designs and we can totally see why! It’s contemporary and fresh, while adding a classic touch to the room.

Our pine stripwood is perfect for this look, opt for 9 x 45 x 2400 (STW6017) to achieve the perfectly square finish. Follow our Instagram for our upcoming how to install wall panelling guide which is being released in April.

Updated Skirting Board

Skirting board is an often overlooked element in everyone’s home, but you would be surprised the difference a pine skirting board and a lick of paint can make. Skirting enhances the appearance of the floor and the colour of your walls. For contemporary homes we recommend a chamfered pencil skirting (FLR6016), and for traditionally decorated homes opt for ogee skirting (FLR3001). Our handy how to install skirting guide is perfect if you need a quick step-by-step to follow when installing.

Stylish Door Architrave

Installing architrave around the surround of a door is a very simple project that would take less than two hours and requires very little tooling. Architrave can add character to basic architecture, making your doorways a classic statement piece. Our ogee, torus or chamfered architrave is easy to work with and adds the final touches to compliment your décor.

Top Factors to Consider Before Renovating your Staircase

Top Factors to Consider Before Renovating your Staircase One of the most integral parts of a home is the staircase, when designing a home the location of the staircase determines the layout of the entire property. The staircase is the central design focus and a new stairway has the ability to transform your home from the aesthetics to the flow in your house. If you are looking to improve your interior space, a stair renovation may be for you. Here are some of the top factors to consider when looking to renovate your stair space. Interior Décor The staircase plays an integral part in enhancing the décor of your property. When you walk into a home your eyes go immediately to the staircase, the centrepiece and central design focus of the home. There is a staircase design to suit everyone, from glass to timber to metal balusters, every homeowner can find a design to match their interior vision. As the staircase is the first part of your home guests see upon entering, it really sets the tone for the décor style of the rest of the house. High Quality A well designed and well maintained staircase and balustrade can last for a lifetime without needing to be replaced. A good quality stair balustrade will ensure fitting is quick to complete and stays in top condition. Adding Value One of the many perks of choosing to renovate your staircase is that you will add a great deal of value to your home, to both the prospective buyers, and the monetary value. An up to date and current stair design will attract possible buyers to your property, increasing the demand and value. Safety Safety should be one of your top considerations when looking to renovate your staircase, it’s important to choose a company that is transparent about the testing and safety credentials their products hold.
